Duke Of Marmalade relative shines at Gold Coast sale

9th Jan 2020

A colt from the same family as Drakenstein Stud’s successful sire Duke Of Marmalade proved the star attraction on the second day of the 2020 Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale on Thursday.

Consigned by Arrowfield Stud, the Deep Impact colt (Lot 385) is the first foal of Group III winning Redoute’s Choice mare Honesty Prevails and was knocked down to young trainer Richard Litt acting for his major client Galletta Constructions.

“It’s a massive opportunity for me and my stable,” said Richard Litt, who trains Group I winning Dundeel colt Castelvecchio, who was raced by Ottavio and Wendy Galletta exclusively before Arrowfield secured a major interest in the colt last year. “I have to thank the Galletta’s, Ottvio and Wendy will be sitting at home watching this. He’s a striking colt, the pick of the draft.”

Honesty Prevails captured the G3 ATC Widden Stakes at two, and her granddam, the Seattle Slew mare Almond Essence is a three-parts sister to US Horse Of The Year and multiple champion sire A.P. Indy.

This is also the family of such notable G1 winners and sires as Lemon Drop Kid, Ruler Of The World, Summer Squall, Court Vision (sire of 2019’s Breeders’ Cup winner Storm The Court), and Duke Of Marmalade.

The five time G1 winning Duke Of Marmalade, whose 70 plus stakes horses include five G1 winners, has three lots on next week’s Cape Premier Yearling Sale, and a further one yearling on offer at next month’s Cape Yearling Sale.
