Marmelo, a son of Drakenstein Stud’s resident sire Duke Of Marmalade, is one of 55 remaining horses in contention for the G1 Emirates Melbourne Cup, to be run in just under a month’s time on November 7th.
Trained by Hughie Morrison, Marmelo is one of 14 international runners among the acceptances for the Melbourne Cup.
Marmelo has enjoyed a very productive season in 2017, with the four-year-old colt having won twice and finished second in the G2 Prix Maurice de Nieuil from four outings.
His wins this year came in the G2 Darley Prix Kergorlay (where Marmelo accounted for subsequent Doncaster Cup winner Desert Skyline), and G3 Prix de Barbeville (where he beat subsequent G1 Prix Vermeille heroine Bateel by two and a half lengths).
His sire Duke Of Marmalade has had a memorable time of it once again this year, with his top performers including G1 Gold Cup winner Big Orange (a possible runner in the G2 Qipco British Champions Long Distance Cup later this month) and Can’thelpbelieving –winner of Canada’s G2 Sky Classic Stakes.
The Cartier Champion and five time G1 winning son of Danehill will be represented by his first South African born and bred runners this season.
Duke Of Marmalade, whose relatives include A P Indy and current red hot US sire Lemon Drop Kid, has three lots on offer at next month’s Ready To Run Sale.
