Drakenstein Stud’s exciting sire Duke Of Marmalade will be represented in Sunday’s HK$10 000 000 Classic Cup at Sha-Tin.
The former Cartier Champion and five time G1 winner will be represented by Prawn Baba in Sunday’s 1800m race, where the first three home have priority to run in the prestigious Hong Kong Derby.
Prawn Baba, who will be ridden by Karis Teetan in Sunday’s big race, was a close up fifth last time out over 1600m for trainer John Size.
Duke Of Marmalade, whose 50 odd stakes horses include Cartier Champion Simple Verse, was represented by no fewer than 19 black type performers in 2016 –including G1 Premio Lydia Tesio winner Sound Of Freedom.
The son of Danehill (whose G1 Investec Derby winning half-brother Ruler Of The World is now a popular young sire at Coolmore) has sired the winners of such prestigious races as the G1 St Leger, G1 Prix de Diane (French Oaks), Qipco British Champions Fillies & Mares Stakes, G1 Deutsches Derby (German Derby), G3 Premio Regina Elena (Italian 1000 Guineas), G2 Goodwood Cup, G2 Princess Of Wales Stakes, G2 Park Hill Stakes and G3 Cliff Hanger Stakes –to name but a few.
He has one lot on offer at the upcoming Cape Yearling Sale – a half-sister to 5 winners (and bred on a similar cross to the Duke’s star daughters Simple Verse and Venus De Milo), this filly is out of a three time winner from the family of former G1 SA Oaks winner Pine Princess and international star fillies Indian Skimmer and Dark Mirage (Lot 80).
Duke Of Marmalade also has two lots on offer at the March Yearling Sale- a colt out of a four time winning daughter of seven times champion sire Jet Master (Lot 10) and a filly out of a Trippi half-sister to G3 winner State Blue (like the filly on offer, by a Danzig line sire) (Lot 184).
