Drakenstein Stud’s successful sire Philanthropist could have a very good few months in front of him.
Not only is his half-brother Bail Out entered for the US Triple Crown series this year, but Philanthropist has a number of really smart sorts representing him –both in South Africa and overseas.
Philanthropist’s talented daughter She’s A Giver caught the eye when winning a conditions plate over a mile at Turffontein on Saturday. Bred by Avontuur, and trained by Johan Janse Van Vuuren, the flashy grey took her earnings to over R580 000 with a professional long neck win over Redberry Lane.
One of the best fillies of her generation, She’s A Giver’s wins include the G3 Starling Stakes and she also ran second, to Equus Champion Bela-Bela, in the 2017 G1 Jonsson Workwear Garden Province Stakes.
The stallion’s Drakenstein Stud bred son Singapore Sling is also currently one of the top four-year-olds in Hong Kong at the moment.
The former G2 Investec Dingaans winner, runner up in the recent HKG1 Hong Kong Classic Mile, is one of 14 horses nominated for the Hong Kong Classic Cup, set to take place at Sha Tin on February 18th. Singapore Sling has already banked over HK$4 000 000 in prize money.
Philanthropist also has a very exciting three-year-old colt competing in South Africa this year.
His son Pack Leader, already winner of the Listed Racing Association Stakes, really caught the eye when finishing strongly for third in the G1 Investec Cape Derby recently –where he accounted for G1 performers Tap O’ Noth, White River, and Like A Panther.
A likely contender for the 2018 G1 Vodacom Durban July, Pack Leader has already earned R543 844 in prize money.
His sire, a former Leading Sire in North America, has two fillies on the 2018 Cape Yearling Sale –a half-sister to the smart filly Silent Rush (Lot 10) and a filly whose dam is a sister to G3 winner Bit On The Side (Lot 11).
