Facile win for Rain relative

25th Aug 2017

The promising filly Tazkeya, a close relative of Wilgerbosdrift’s exciting young sire Soft Falling Rain, took her record to two wins from just four outings when romping home to score by five and a half lengths at Delaware Park on Thursday.

Soft Falling Rain

It was no race for the lightly raced three-year-old who romped home to win the mile dirt race as she liked.

A daughter of Blame and G1 winner Habibti, Tazkeya was hammered down to 9-10 stretching out to two turns for the first time here, the homebred stalked the pace of a longshot through splits of :24.10 and :47.60, crept closer on the latter half of the turn and spurted clear in the stretch to score under wraps by 5 ½ lengths.

Tazkeya races for Shadwell Farm, who also raced Soft Falling Rain himself.

Habibti, who is also dam of Breeders’ Cup winner and US millionaire Eldaafer, won three times in the US including the G1 Del Mar Debutante Stakes and G1 Hollywood Starlet Stakes and also ran third in the G1 Kentucky Oaks.

Her second dam Quillummo is also the third dam of Equus Champion 2YO Colt Soft Falling Rain, whose first crop are yearlings this season.

Soft Falling Rain winning the Gr2 Godolphin Mile

Bred by Highlands Stud, Soft Falling Rain was unbeaten in four outings at two, when his wins included both the G1 SA Nursery and Listed Storm Bird Stakes. Exported to Dubai, the bay son of National Assembly won three on the bounce and made history when becoming the first 3yo to win the prestigious G2 Godolphin Mile on World Cup night.

He went on to land the G2 Nayef Joel Stakes in Britain, and retired having won major races in three different countries.
