Sons of Maine Chance Farms’ top class young stallion Querari dominated proceedings in the umThombothi Stakes at Scottsville on Sunday.
Querari sons Head Honcho and Warfarer ran 1-2 to give their sire a clean sweep of the R125 000 feature.

Trained by Andre Nel, Head Honcho stayed on smartly to win the 1950 umThombothi Stakes by 1.5 lengths over his paternal half-brother, with previous stakes winners Red Chesnut Road and Celtic Captain among the beaten field.
Bred by La Plaisance Stud, Head Honcho has now won two in a row, and the lightly raced four-year-old has now won or placed in eight of his 12 outings.
He is another notable winner for G1 Premio Presidente Repubblica winner Querari this season, whose other feature race wins came courtesy of the likes of Wonderwall (G2 Joburg Spring Challenge) and Monks Hood (G2 Investec Dingaans).
Querari could be represented by both Monks Hood and Wonderwall in Saturday week’s G2 Betting World Gauteng Guineas.

The half-brother to group/graded stakes winners Quidura and young Cape sire Quasillo has a single lot on offer at Sunday’s Cape Yearling Sale –a colt whose granddam is a sister to Gold Medallion runner up Monsieur Dominique (Lot 92).
