Feature race double for Gimmethegreenlight

25th Jan 2025

Varsfontein Stud’s multiple champion sire Gimmethegreenlight had a notable big-race double at Hollywoodbets Kenilworth on Saturday.
Not only was the son of More Than Ready responsible for Saturday’s Listed Heineken Summer Juvenile Stakes winner Wild Wild Green, but the champion’s son Gimme A Prince romped home to a brilliant win in Saturday’s G1 HKJC World Pool Cape Flying Championship (1000m).
Both Wild Wild Green and Gimme A Prince are out of daughters of Trippi.
Winner of the 2023 Cape Flying Championship, the Dean Kannemeyer trained Gimme A Prince showed his class with a breathtaking performance in Saturday’s R1 500 000 sprint. In the process, Gimme A Prince accounted for such G1 winning sprinters as Surjay and Dyce, as well as graded stakes winners Questioning, Asiye Phambili, Seeking The Stars, Cafe Culture, Bereave and Cosmic Highway.
Under Craig Zackey, the gelded six-year-old put a top-class field to the sword, with Gimme A Prince outclassing his rivals to win as he liked by five and three quarter lengths, a steeplechase margin over the 1000m trip.
Bred and owned by Khaya Stables, Gimme A Prince has won seven of 16 starts, with the gelding having finished third in the 2025 G1 L’Ormarins King’s Plate.
Gimme A Prince has four graded victories to his name, with the brilliant gelding having also prevailed in the 2023 G1 Golden Horse Sprint.
He is one of 72 stakes winners for Gimmethegreenlight, South Africa’s Champion Sire in 2020-2021, 2022-2023 and 2023-2024.
