First crop Oaks winner for Gitano Hernando

26th Jun 2017

The Alchemy’s well performed young sire Gitano Hernando has made a smart start to his stud career and was represented by a first crop Oaks winner this weekend, when his daughter Whose That Girl won the Listed Highlands Stud Winter Oaks at Kenilworth on Saturday.

Bred by the Narrow Creek Girl, the Candice Bass-Robinson trained Whose That Girl made it a 1-2 for the stable when downing her Australian bred stable mate Leaves Of Grass in Saturday’s 2200m contest.

Whose That Girl, an R85 000 buy from the 2015 March Yearling Sale, was landing the second feature of her career having previously won the Listed Sweet Chestnut Stakes and Saturday’s victory pushed her earnings to over R340 000.

The filly, a first stakes winner for her dam Casual Gal, has now won or been placed in all three legs of the Winter Series for 3yo fillies, having finished third last time out in the Listed Stormsvlei Fillies Mile.

Her sire Gitano Hernando’s first crop also includes Brave Nomad, a winner of two of his only three starts to date, and useful feature race contender Tanami.

Earner of more than $2 million during his career which saw Gitano Hernando, who is from one of the best female lines in the stud book, compete in all of Britain, Dubai, Hong Kong Ireland, Singapore and the USA, Gitano Hernando will be represented by a single lot on this week’s KZN Yearling Sale –a colt out of a winning daughter of G1 Garden Province Stakes winner Soft Landing (Lot 96).
