First G1 winner for Bold Silvano

28th May 2018

Ascot Stud’s homebred resident sire, and Equus Champion, Bold Silvano was represented by his first G1 winner when his Ascot Stud bred son Bold Respect won the G1 Tsogo Sun Sprint at Scottsville on Saturday.

The 3yo gelding made all, under jockey Corne Orffer, to record a 1.75 length win in the 1200m sprint over Man O’War Sprint winner Pinnacle Peak, with Bold Respect’s stable mate Sunset Eyes back in third place.

Bold Respect

Bold Respect, who is trained by Brett Crawford, has now won his last two in a row, with the gelding having captured the Listed In Full Flight Handicap at his last outing.
Winner of the Kuda Sprint at two, Bold Respect has now won or placed in nine of his 11 outings, and has prize money of R1 992 500.

He hails from Bold Silvano’s first crop of foals, with the sire’s first crop including Guineas hero Flasher On The Run, Dubai campaigner Bold Rex, and the stakes placed filly Keep The Faith. Bold Silvano’s third crop, now two, include five winners –notably G3 Protea Stakes winner Bold Eagle, a winner of three of his first outings to date.

Bold Silvano

One of four Silvano sons to have won the G1 Vodacom Durban July, Bold Silvano, a ¾ brother to this season’s high class G1 performer Silvan Star, was South Africa’s Equus Champion Middle Distance Horse of 2010.
He not only won the 2010 Vodacom Durban July, but also scored an emphatic win in the G3 Maktoum Challenge R2 (when making his Dubai debut) over international stars Interaction, Gitano Hernando, and Crowded House.

Bold Silvano has four lots on the 2018 KZN Yearling Sale –including a filly from the same family as standouts Aussie Rules, Allegretto, and Alborada (Lot 8), and a colt from the same family as champion Arabian Lass and G1 SA Nursery winner Arabian Beat, who won again on Sunday (Lot 220).
