First Langerman winner for Captain Al

26th Jun 2017

Over the years, Captain Al has established himself as one of the finest sire of 2yos ever to stand at stud in South Africa. Juveniles sired by the G1 Cape Guineas winner have won the majority of South Africa’s top juvenile contests including the G1 SA Nursery (twice), G1 Gold Medallion (twice), G1 Allan Robertson Fillies Championship (twice), G1 Thekwini Stakes and G1 Premier’s Champion Stakes and Captain Al has himself been champion sire of 2yos in South Africa the past eight seasons in a row.

On Saturday, however, Captain Al was represented by his first ever Listed Langerman winner when his unbeaten 2yo son Tap O’ Noth romped to a facile four length win in the 1500m contest, previously won by such outstanding performers as Act Of War, Prince Florimund, and dual Horse Of The Year Variety Club.

Bred and owned by Alec and Gillian Foster, Tap O’ Noth, an easy winner on debut, is likely to be aimed at the G1 Cape Guineas later this year (a race won previously by Captain Al himself and by Captain Al’s star son William Longsword in 2016).

Tap O’ Noth, who is out of the winning Western Winter mare Wintersweet, is bred on the same Captain Al/Western Winter cross as Captain Al’s five time winning daughter Carry On Alice.

He is one of 11 two-year-old winners for Captain Al this season, whose other notable juveniles include Listed Princess Charlene Of Monaco Foundation SA Summer Juvenile Stakes winner Call To Account and impressive winner Captain And Master, who lines up in the G2 Durban Golden Horseshoe at Greyville this Saturday.
