First runner for Pomodoro

4th Dec 2017

The Klawervlei Stud based July winner Pomodoro could be represented by his first runner this week.
The son of Jet Master has a first crop starter, Royal Italian, set to face the starter over 900m at Kenilworth on Saturday.

Pomodoro

Bred by Highlands Stud, Royal Italian comes from the yard, as did his sire, of champion trainer Sean Tarry.
The colt, who was produced by the Royal Academy mare Royal Polly, was a R100 000 buy from the 2017 Emperors Palace Select Yearling Sale.

Pomodoro, who was one of the most versatile and talented runners of his generation, won eight times from 1160-2450m.
His victories included all of the G1 Vodacom Durban July, G1 SA Derby, and G3 Tony Ruffel Stakes, with Pomodoro also placing in the G1 L’Ormarins Queen’s Plate, G1 SA Classic, G1 Rising Sun Gold Challenge, and G1 Champions Challenge.

Among the notable horses beaten by Pomodoro were G1 winners Beach Beauty,Gimmethegreenlight, Heavy Metal, Jackson, Potala Palace, Solo Traveller, and Top Seller.

One of 22 G1 winners by seven times champion sire Jet Master, Pomodoro is out of Northern Guest’s G2 Fillies Guineas winner, and Broodmare Of The Year, Golden Apple.

He is bred on the same cross as Equus Champions J J The Jet Plane and In The Fast Lane.
