Two of the Cape’s most exciting new stallions, Fire Away and Heavenly Blue, are set to be represented their first runners at Turffontein this Saturday.
The Wilgerbosdrift based Fire Away is set to be represented by his two-year-old son Fire ‘N Flames in Saturday’s 4Racing Maiden Juvenile Plate (800m), the first two-year-old race run this season.
Trained by Kobus Roux, Fire ‘N Flames, who gets the services of S’Manga Khumalo on Saturday, was bred by Ascot Stud.
The colt is out of the Silvano mare Silvan Jazz.
His sire Fire Away, who shares his sire War Front with more than 20 G1 winners, was a high-class galloper whose seven career wins included triumphs in all of the G3 Dixie Stakes, Danger’s Hour Stakes and Artie Schiller Stakes.
A half-brother to G1 Belmont Derby winner, and G1 sire, Mr Speaker, Fire Away is out of G2 Demoiselle Stakes runner up Salute -whose sire Unbridled also ranks as broodmare sire of outstanding sire Tapit.
Fire Away, whose granddam is unbeaten US champion Personal Ensign, had members of his first crop make up to R1 600 000 at this year’s National Yearling Sale.
Ascot Stud’s flashy resident sire Heavenly Blue will have his first starter in Saturday’s 4Racing Maiden Juvenile Plate (800m) in the form of Zinovi.
The latter, a two-year-old colt trained, like his sire, by Mike de Kock, will be ridden by Randall Simons on Saturday.
Zinovi, who was bred by Danika Stud, is out of the Jallad mare Zayna.
A son of four times Australian Champion Sire Snitzel (whose other sire sons include the likes of Shamus Award and Russian Revolution), Heavenly Blue was one of the best three-year-olds of his generation in South Africa.
The handsome grey finished first, second or third in seven of his 11 races, with Heavenly Blue’s biggest win coming in the 2017 G1 SA Classic.
Out of the El Prado mare Simply Carina, Heavenly Blue’s granddam is the Theatrical sired multiple G1 winner Astra.
