Five in a row for Trippi filly

4th Sep 2017

Drakenstein Stud’s resident sire Trippi looks to have a really smart sort in his hands in the form of Guns And Roses, who made it five wins on the bounce when successful yet again this past weekend.

Gold Standard

Bred by Klawervlei Stud, the lightly raced Guns And Roses took her tally to five wins from just six outings when romping to an easy 3.4 length winner over 1800m at Turffontein on Saturday. Trained by Geoff Woodruff, the four-year-old has not lost since finishing a close up third on debut and Guns And Roses looks capable of going on to bigger and better things.

The filly, who has now won from 1475 to 1800 metres, was a R160 000 buy from the 2015 CTS Johannesburg Ready To Run Sale.

Out of the Gone West mare, Guns And Roses is bred on the same Trippi/Gone West cross as the top-class US galloper Travelin Man, whose five wins included the 2011 G2 Swale Stakes.

Live Life

She is from the same crop as the top-class performers Gold Standard (G2 Selangor Cup) and Live Life (G2 Cartier Sceptre Stakes) as well as G1 Thekwini Stakes runner up Dawn Calling.

Trippi has enjoyed another tremendous year in 2017, with his son Deo Juvente defeating Horse Of The Year Legal Eagle to land the G1 Premiers Champions Challenge and another son, Charles, fetching R6 000 000 at the 2017 Cape Premier Yearling Sale.
