G1 runners for Duke Of Marmalade –on two different continents!

19th Oct 2017

Drakenstein Stud’s top class sire Duke Of Marmalade could well be represented by G1 runners on two different continents this weekend.

Marmelo

Duke Of Marmalade’s dual group winning son Marmelo is one of 17 runners carded for Saturday’s G1 Caulfield Cup, a race run for a prize of AUS $3.15 million.
Trained by Hughie Morrison, Marmelo gets the services of none other than Hugh Bowman (rider of Winx) in Saturday’s big race.

The colt, who will carry second top weight of 55kgs, will jump from barrier ten in his Australian debut. Marmelo will be making his first outing since downing subsequent Doncaster Cup winner Desert Skyline in the G2 Darley Prix Kergorlay.

In the Northern Hemisphere, Duke Of Marmalade’s star son Big Orange, who has already earned in excess of £1 000 000 in prize money, will be bidding for his seventh group success when he lines up in Saturday’s G2 Qipco British Champions Long Distance Cup at Ascot on Champions Day.

Big Orange lifts Gold Cup

Winner of the G1 Gold Cup earlier this year, and second most recently in the G1 Qatar Goodwood Cup, Big Orange is currently heading the standings for the Cartier Stayer of the Year division.

Sire of impressive recent French G2 winning filly Traffic Jam, Duke Of Marmalade was himself a Cartier Champion and has already one Cartier Champion to his credit in the form of Simple Verse as well as European champions Nutan and Sound Of Freedom.
