Varsfontein Stud’s top-class young stallion Gimmethegreenlight’s great run of success continued this weekend when his progeny picked up no fewer than three awards at Saturday night’s East Cape Racing Awards ceremony.

The former L’Ormarins Queen’s Plate winner is the sire of promising filly Queen Forever, who was named the East Cape’s Champion 2YO Filly after a season which saw Queen Forever win two of just three outings including the Listed Lady’s Slipper Stakes. Bred by Varsfontein Stud, Queen Forever was a bargain R100 000 buy from the 2016 Val De Vie Yearling Sale.
She was one of four stakes winning 2yos to represent Gimmethegreenlight, whose other notable juvenile winners in 2016-2017 included G2 SA Fillies Nursery winner Green Plains.
Former leading first crop sire Gimmethegreenlight is also responsible for talented filly Beataboutthebush, who was named East Cape Racing’s Champion 3YO Filly, after winning four times last season including the Listed East Cape Paddock Stakes, and for the very smart Gimme The Stars (Champion 3YO Colt/Gelding). The latter reeled off four wins on the bounce last season, with his victories including both the Listed Ibhayi Stakes and Listed East Cape Guineas.

One of more than 170 stakes winners for world leading sire More Than Ready (sire of recent graded stakes winning 2yos Copper Bullet and Catholic Brother), Gimmethegreenlight made a scintillating start with his first crop including no fewer than six stakes winners, including G1 winner Gunner and G2 Daisy Fillies Guineas winner Gimme Six.
