Gimmethegreenlight 2yo wins in open company

22nd Jun 2017

Varsfontein Stud’s resident sire Gimmethegreenlight was represented by his 11th juvenile winner of the season when his Cheveley Stud bred daughter Frederico’s Dream justified 5-10 favouritism to break her maiden in open company at the Vaal on Thursday.

The Mike Azzie trained filly was making just her second racecourse appearance having finished second over 1200m on debut recently.

Out of the Linamix mare Verdala, Frederico’s Dream was a R425 000 purchase from last year’s National Yearling Sale.

Her sire Gimmethegreenlight’s current 2yo crop includes three stakes horses, including G2 SA Fillies Nursery winner Green Plains and recent Listed Lady’s Slipper winner Queen Forever. Other talented 2yos representing Gimmethegreenlight this season include the stakes placed Rose In Bloom (a leading contender for Saturday’s Listed Irridescence Stakes), and debut winner Green Top, who runs in Saturday week’s G2 Gold Circle Golden Slipper.

A sign of Gimmethegreenlight’s ever increasing popularity can be seen in the fact that a service to the stallion was knocked down to Chris Van Niekerk for R160 000 at the recent Cape Breeders’ Club Annual Stallion Service Auction last week.
The G1 L’Ormarins Queen’s Plate winning son of More Than Ready has a single lot on offer at next week’s KZN Yearling Sale –a full-sister to a recent winner, this filly is from the same family as European star and four time G1 winner Bigstone (Lot 189).
