Varsfontein Stud’s outstanding sire Gimmethegreenlight provided the top-priced yearling sold at Sunday’s Cape Yearling Sale.
The colt (Lot 34), consigned to the sale by Syrilla Stud, was knocked down to A G Racing for R900 000.
The sales topper, who has been named Gone Cold, is out of the twice-winning Captain Al mare Frosted Steel, a three-part sister to the Captain Al-sired stakes winners Captain In Command and Canadian Sunset.
Bred on the same Gimmethegreenlight/Captain Al cross as champions Proceed and Sandringham Summit, Gone Cold is a half-brother to promising two-year-old Captains Envy.
His sire enjoyed an outstanding weekend this week, with Gimmethegreenlight sired runners dominating feature race action on Saturday.
Not only did the Gimmethegreenlight full-brothers Gimme A Prince and The Real Prince win Saturday’s G2 Khaya Stables Diadem Stakes and Listed City Of Cape Town Jet Master Stakes respectively, but Gimmethegreenlight fillies ran 1-2-3 in Saturday’s Listed Schweppes Cape Fillies Classic.
The champion son of More Than Ready has 26 yearlings on offer at the Premier Yearling Sale.
