Varsfontein Stud’s in-form resident stallion Gimmethegreenlight has a cracking crop of 2yos this season, and the son of More Than Ready looks to have another above average sort in the form of Gimme Crystals.
That Ascot Stud bred filly made it two wins from as many outings when romping home in a juvenile plate over 1200m by two and a quarter lengths at Fairview on Friday to maintain her unbeaten record.
Out of the Zamindar mare Crystal Glitter, Gimme Crystals had won a good race when successful first time out over 1000m.
Friday’s winner was a R90 000 purchase from the 2017 National Two Year Old Sale.
She is one of several hugely promising juveniles representing L’Ormarins Queen’s Plate winner Gimmethegreenlight this season, with others including the Gatecrasher Stakes 1-2 finishers Barahin and Green Haze. Barahin and Green Haze both hold entries in the G2 Durban Golden Horseshoe, as do fellow Gimmethegreenlight sons Crown Guardian and Sulka.
Gimmethegreenlight, South Africa’s Champion First Crop Sire in 2015-2016, has enjoyed another stellar season in 2017-2018, with his notable representatives including G1 Daily News 2000 winner Surcharge, G1 Wilgerbosdrift SA Fillies Classic second Green Top and G2 Highlands Stud Camellia Stakes heroine Green Plains.
He has eight lots on offer at the 2018 KZN Yearling Sale.
