Gimmethegreenlight filly romps to East Cape Fillies Nursery win

21st Mar 2020

Varsfontein Stud’s sensational sire Gimmethegreenlight has had a tremendous season in 2019-2020 thus far, and he was responsible for another impressive black type winner when his Varsfontein bred and owned daughter Favorita ran out a devastating winner of Friday’s Listed East Cape Fillies Nursery (1200m) at Fairview racecourse.

Sent off the 53-20 tote favourite, the Justin Snaith trained filly simply pulverized her eight rivals, with the Richard Fourie ridden Favorita romping home to land the 2020 East Cape Fillies Nursery by nine and three quarter lengths.

Favorita, fourth in the G3 Capetown Noir Kenilworth Fillies Nursery at her previous start, has now won two of just four starts.

Bred on similar lines to the sire’s Umkhomazi Stakes winner Hack Green and Vinery Stud’s Breeders’ Cup winning sire Pluck (a son of Gimmethegreenlight’s sire More Than Ready), Favorita is the 24th stakes winner sired by Gimmethegreenlight.

The latter, South Africa’s Leading First Crop Sire of 2015-2016, Gimmethegreenlight has a sensational season thus far, with his representatives including Got The Greenlight, Green Laser, and Youcanthurrylove –who ran 1-2-3 in the recent G1 SA Classic, as well as unbeaten filly Lady Of Steel and G2 Peermont Emperors Palace Charity Mile winner Barahin.

At the time of writing, Gimmethegreenlight’s progeny had banked over R8.355 million this season.

Recently responsible for his 50th black type horse, Gimmethegreenlight has 40 lots on offer at the 2020 Emperors Palace National Yearling Sale.
