Greys Inn son takes high ranking on world list

Legal Eagle, a son of Rosedene Stud’s resident sire Greys Inn, has been officially rated the highest rated horse in South Africa for the period 1st January and 5th March 2017.

LONGINES‘s Best Racehorses Rankings have officially given Legal Eagle a rating of 119, which places South Africa’s reigning Horse Of The Year 1lbs superior to his G1 Sun Met conqueror Whisky Baron.

Legal Eagle’s rating also sees him rated equal to outstanding international G1 winners Black Heart, Bart, Chautauqua , Le Romain and Sixties Song, and superior to G1 winners Werther, Blazing Speed, Extreme Choice, Hey Doc, and Midnight Storm. He is officially currently rated the joint 5th best horse in the world!

Bred by Avontuur Thoroughbred Farm, Legal Eagle is a triple Equus Award winner, with his nine career wins including five at G1 level. Legal Eagle, who has banked more than R8 000 000 in stakes thus far, has won two of four outings this season, with his wins including a second successive score in the G1 L’Ormarins Queen’s Plate.

His Equus Champion sire Greys Inn, himself a former G1 Vodacom Durban July winner, has 1 lot on offer at Thursday’s Cape Yearling Sale –a colt out of a four time winning Windrush half-sister to a stakes performer (Lot 114).

The son of Zabeel also has nine lots on offer at the March Yearling Sale next week, with Greys Inn’s March draft including a filly from the family of international stars Colonial Affair, Declaration Of War and Union Rags (Lot 12), a filly bred on the same cross as Greys Inn’s Dubai star Forries Waltz (Lot41), and a colt whose dam is a winning half-sister to G1 winning sprinter and sire Tobe Or Nottobe (Lot66).
