Varsfontein Stud’s champion resident sire Gimmethegreenlight looks to have another smart sort on his hands in the form of Eye Of The Prophet.
The latter made it three wins from his last four starts when running out a convincing winner at the Vaal on Thursday and now looks destined for bigger and better things.
Under Rachel Venniker, the gelded Eye Of The Prophet produced a blistering turn of foot which saw the three-year-old get up to win Thursday’s Next Vaal Racemeeting Saturday 10 December MR 80 Handicap (1600m) by a neck.
Eye Of The Prophet was one of four winners for trainer Paul Matchett on Thursday and Matchett now has plans to run his rising star in the G2 Gauteng Guineas.
Eye Of The Prophet was bred by Patriica Devine Investments.
The three-year-old is out of the Fort Wood mare Umlilo and is thus bred on the hugely successful Gimmethegreenlight/Fort Wood cross responsible for such graded stakes winners as Gee For Go, Green Pepper (dam of G1 winner Sweet Pepper),Hack Green and Second Base.
Eye Of The Prophet was one of two winners for Gimmethegreenlight at the Vaal on Thursday, with the former G1 L’Ormarins Queen’s Plate also sire of Bee In My Bonnet, who broke her maiden when victorious in the third race on the card. In the process, that Varsfontein Stud bred and owned three-year-old beat another daughter of Gimmethegreenlight, Spirit Princess, into second spot.
South Africa’s Champion Sire of 2020-2021, Gimmethegreenlight is having another fine season this year with his flagbearers including such exciting graded stakes winners as Ciao Bella and Gimme A Shot to name but two.
