Ideal World gelding lands TAB Gauteng Guineas

2nd Feb 2025

Mauritzfontein’s high-class sire Ideal World had a big payday at Turffontein on Saturday. His three-year-old son Parisian Walkway showed the benefits of gelding when he won the G2 TAB Gauteng Guineas (1600m) over some of the country’s top three-year-olds.
In landing Saturday’s R1 000 000 contest, Parisian Walkway became Ideal World’s 32nd stakes winner.
Trained, like Ideal World’s champion daughter Smart Call, by Alec Laird, Parisian Walkway was given a tremendous ride by Diego De Gouveia in the Gauteng Guineas.
De Gouveia took his mount to the front early on, but Parisian Walkway appeared beaten as the favourite, Greaterix, loomed up close home.
However, De Gouveia coaxed a little more from his courageous mount and the pair fought back to win by just under half a length.
Bred by Wilgerbosdrift & Mauritzfontein, Parisian Walkway was knocked down to A G Racing for R450 000 at the 2023 August Two Year Old Sale.
The gelding is out of the Mastercraftsman mare Boutique.
Parisian Walkway, one of two runners in the 2025 Gauteng Guineas sired by Ideal World, was one of two winners for his inform sire at Turffontein on Saturday.
Ideal World gelding Tamarisk Tree, who had to overcome an objection, made it back-to-back wins when he won the third race at Turffontein.
Under a strong ride from Gavin Lerena, the Robbie Sage trained five-year-old dug down deep to land the For Hospitality Bookings Call 011 681 1796 MR96 Handicap by a neck.
Another bred by Wilgerbosdrift & Mauritzfontein, Tamarisk Tree has won five of 26 starts for earnings of R544,688.
Saturday’s winner, who is bred on similar lines to the Ideal World sired stakes winners Onesie and Perfection, was produced by the Belong To Me mare Milk And Honey.
Ideal World, whose close relative Dansili is the broodmare sire of Saturday’s G2 Wilgerbosdrift Gauteng Fillies Guineas queen Spumante Dolce, is having a fine run with his runners.
On Wednesday, his daughter Mocha Blend made it two wins from three starts when winning at Hollywoodbets Greyville and the following day, Ideal World filly Ancient Wisdom won for a second time, in just six starts, when victorious at the Vaal.
