Mauritzfontein’s inform sire Ideal World hails from one of the best families in the studbook.
This family gained another handsome boost when Lead Artist won the G1 BoyleSports Lockinge Stakes at Newbury on Saturday.
Strongly backed, the four-year-old was backed down from morning odds of 18-1 to finish at 17-2.
Fallen Angel led the field until two furlongs to go before Lead Artist got the better of a sustained battle with 2-1 favourite Dancing Gemini.
Murphy, riding his first top-level Group One winner for owners Juddmonte, edged ahead by a neck in the final strides.
Lead Artist is Coral’s 4-1 favourite for next month’s Queen Anne Stakes at Royal Ascot, with Dancing Gemini a point longer and Rosallion a 6-1 chance.
A son of Dubawi, Lead Artist is out of the Frankel mare Obligate. The latter won three times including the G2 Prix de Sandringham, with Obligate herself a daughter of the Oasis Dream mare Responsible, with Responsible’s dam none other than mighty matron Hasili.
The latter, granddam of Ideal World, produced outstanding sire Dansili as well as such G1 winners as Champs Elysees, Cacique, Intercontinental, Heat Haze and Banks Hill.
Banks Hill, whose five wins include both the G1 Breeders’ Cup Filly &Mare Turf and G1 Prix Jacques le Marois, is the dam of G1 Prix Jean Romanet winner Romantica, Trojan Queen –the granddam of G1 winning sire Belbek, and Ideal World.
The latter, whose progeny include such champions as Rainbow Bridge and Smart Call, is the sire of more than 30 stakes winners including this season’s G2 TAB Gauteng Guineas winner Parisian Walkway and Listed East Cape Oaks winner Lotus Island.
