Impressive 2yo winner for Gimmethegreenlight

3rd Jan 2017

Varsfontein Stud’s exciting young sire Gimmethegreenlight has made a superb start to his stud career. Last season’s Leading First Crop Sire once again made the headlines on Saturday, when his 2yo daughter Green Plains won impressively on debut.

Trained by Sean Tarry, the S’Manga Khumalo ridden Green Plains simply coasted to a facile 1.7 length win over800 –with her rider barely moving a muscle!

This was a sensational debut performance from this Gary Player Stud Farm bred filly, who is out of the winning Jet Master mare Savannah Leigh.

Two of Gimmethegreenlight’s first juvenile runners have either won or placed this season, and he looks on course for another successful season this year.

Former G1 L’Ormarins Queen’s Plate winner Gimmethegreenlight is by outstanding shuttle sire More Than Ready. The latter is also sire of hugely successful Australian sire Sebring, whose daughter She Brings Joy won the recent G2 Royal Stakes in New Zealand. She Brings Joy will now be aimed at the G1 New Zealand and G1 Queensland Oaks respectively.

Gimmethegreenlight, whose first crop has already produced 3 Graded winners –notably star filly Green Pepper and G1 winner Gunner, has 16 lots on offer at January’s Cape Premier Yearling Sale. His draft includes some impeccably bred youngsters, notably a filly from the family of Breeders’ Cup winner Pluck (by More Than Ready) and G2 winner Hack Green (Lot 117), a colt out of a G3 winning Galileo half sister to Australian G1 winner Srikandi (Lot 161), a half brother to speedy stakes winner Agra (Lot 205), a colt out of a G3 own sister to G1 winners Nania and Red Ray (Lot 219) and a colt (bred on the same cross as Green Plains) out of G2 winner She’s On Fire (Lot186).
