Impressive debut winner for Gimmethegreenlight

3rd Jan 2018

Varsfontein Stud’s prominent sire Gimmethegreenlight had an eye catching debut winner at the Vaal on Tuesday afternoon.
His son Keyboogie showed plenty of guts, under Hennie Greyling to post a first out 0.6 of length win at the expense of well bred first-timer, and favourite, Tripod. It was another five lengths away to third place finisher Seventh Son.

The gelding ran on powerfully over the 1000m to win going away and looks another decent prospect for his sire Gimmethegreenlight.

Bred by Avontuur Thoroughbred Farm, the 3yo Keyboogie is trained by Johan Janse Van Vuuren.

Keyboogie is from the second crop of G1 L’Ormarins Queen’s Plate winner Gimmethegreenlight, whose sire More Than Ready was represented by a pair of Breeders’ Cup winners in 2017.

Gimmethegreenlight, whose outstanding first crop included graded stakes winners Gunner, Gimme Six, Hack Green and Green Pepper, is also sire of high class 3yos Surcharge and Rose In Bloom.

To date, seven stakes horses have emerged from Gimmethegreenlight’s second crop, which also includes East Cape champion Queen Forever.

Gimmethegreenlight will be represented at this weekend’s LQP festival by his G2 SA Fillies Nursery winning daughter Green Plains (G2 Cartier Sceptre Stakes), Rose In Bloom (Sceptre Stakes) and Gimme Six. The latter is a leading contender for Saturday’s G1 Cartier Paddock Stakes over 1800 metres.
