Varsfontein Stud’s exciting sire Gimmethegreenlight enjoyed another memorable weekend this week, when the former G1 L’Ormarins Queen’s Plate winner and leading first crop sire had a treble of winners.
Gimmethegreenlight’s treble was headed by an impressive debut winner in the form of Gimmethenight.
Trained by Weiho Marwing, the 3yo colt powered home to score going away first time out over 1160m in the style of a horse with ability.
Out of the stakes winning Silvano mare Reconcile, Gimmethenight was a R180 000 buy from the 2016 Sibaya KZN Yearling Sale.
He is one of a number of promising 3yos representing Gimmethegreenlight this season, with others including Saturday’s G1 WSB Cape Fillies Guineas entrant Rose In Bloom, and G2 Southern Cross Stakes hope Green Plains.
Gimmethegreenlight’s other winners over the weekend included Nauticus (who got off the mark when triumphant over 1200m at Kenilworth on Saturday) and the eye catching Accidental Tourist.
The latter made it a hatrick of wins when justifying favouritism over 1200m at Greyville on Sunday when running on to score by a neck.
Bred by the Hemel ‘N Aarde Stud, the Duncan Howells trained Accidental Tourist has now won or placed in eight of her 13 outings. A member of her sire’s first crop, Accidental Tourist (who has already earned more than double her purchase price) was a R125 000 buy from the 2015 March Yearling Sale.
A son of outstanding shuttle sire More Than Ready, Gimmethegreenlight made a superb start to his stud career, with his brilliant first crop producing 10 stakes horses, headed by graded stakes winners Gunner, Gimme Six, Hack Green and Green Pepper.
