Last season’s champion sire of 2yos, Var, was represented by an eye catching two-year-old winner this weekend.
The Avontuur Thoroughbred Farm resident is the sire of Rule The Night, who won impressively first time out when justifying favouritism over 1000m at Turffontein on Saturday.
Trained by Corne Spies, the Carl and Amanda de Vos bred 2yo won as he liked by three lengths and Rule The Night looks a smart sort in the making.
Out of the Victory Moon mare Light The Moon was a R375 000 buy from the 2017 National Yearling Sale.
Rule The Night is the second Var 2yo runner to score on debut this season, with Val-La-Ree having romped home by four lengths earlier in the season at Scottsville.
Var is also sire of promising 2yo filly Carioca, who runs in Saturday’s Listed Summer Juvenile Stakes, and Kuda Sprint hope Vartanium.
Var also enjoyed success at the 2018 Cape Premier Yearling Sale, where his yearlings fetched up to R600 000.
