Impressive French debut winner for Flower Alley
17th January 2017
Wilgerbosdrift’s exciting sire Flower Alley looks to have a potentially very smart filly on his hands in the form of the Nicolas Clement trained Flower Fashion.
The latter, a 3yo filly, made a stylish winning debut when winning the Prix Biribi over 1900m at Chantilly on Monday –despite having a very wide passage in running.
Out of the Kendor mare Winter Fashion, Flower Fashion (who was backed down to favouritism for Monday’s race) has been entered for both the G1 Poule d’Essai des Pouliches (French 1000 Guineas) and G1 Prix de Diane (French Oaks).
Her sire Flower Alley was a top class athlete, whose five wins included the G1 Travers Stakes and G2 Jim Dandy Stakes. The son of champion US sire Distorted Humor also ran second in the G1 Breeders’ Cup Classic and banked over $2.5 million before retiring to stud.
Since retiring to stud, Flower Alley has sired a growing number of top class performers headed by US champion and G1 Kentucky Derby winner Flower Alley, Canadian champion and G1 winner Lukes Alley, G1 Ashland Stakes winner Lilacs And Lace, champion My Wandy’s Gal and US millionaire Neck ‘N Neck.
Flower Alley, who was booked full in his first South African season, was represented by a cracking first crop of South African foals last year.
