Lammerskraal Stud’s successful sire Visionaire enjoyed a weekend to remember, when he was represented by a pair of eye catching debut winners.
First of the Visionaire runners to score over the weekend was the two-year-old colt Mr Bombastic, who made a winning debut at Greyville on Friday night.
Trained by Gavin Van Zyl, the Summerhill Stud bred two-year-old ran on stoutly to win impressively by a length and a quarter over 1200m, having previously won a barrier trial in smart fashion.
Ridden to victory by Warren Kennedy, Mr Bombastic was a R40 000 buy from the 2017 KZN Yearling Sale.
The colt, who was produced by the Kahal mare Celebration, is the first juvenile winner for Visionaire this season thus far.
Visionaire had another first timer win when his son Helios made a winning debut over 1160m at Turffontein on Saturday for champion trainer Sean Tarry. The 3yo gelding had been a star at the 2016 CTS Johannesburg Ready To Run Sale, where Helios fetched R550 000 –and judging by his smart winning debut on Saturday he looks to have a bright future ahead of him.
Inbred to Gone West, Helios was produced the Count Dubois mare Heliantha.
Visionaire went close to having a weekend treble, with his G2 Wilgerbosdrift Gauteng Fillies Guineas winning daughter Heaps Of Fun flying up late for third in a pinnacle stakes over 1160m at Turffontein on Saturday. Also trained by Sean Tarry, the talented Heaps Of Fun has now banked over R900 000 in prize money.
The former G1 King’s Bishop Stakes winner, whose half-brother Madison’s Luna recently made a winning debut, has a single lot on the 2018 April Yearling Sale but has a large draft of 18 yearlings on offer at the 2018 National Yearling Sale.
