Jacaranda Handicap success for Legislate

18th Mar 2023

Cheveley Stud’s homebred champion, and resident sire, Legislate had a big payday at Turffontein on Saturday when his daughter Bureau Des Legende won the Listed Jacaranda Handicap over 1600 metres.

The filly defied her starting price of 66-1 by staying on to win the first feature race of her career in courageous fashion.
Under a great front-running ride from Gabriel Pieterse, four-year-old Bureau Des Legende kicked on gamely in the closing stages to claim Saturday’s R150 000 feature race by just half a length.
Bred by Drakenstein Stud, Bureau Des Legende provided trainer Robyn Klaasen with her biggest success to date.
Now a six-time winner from 21 starts, Bureau Des Legende has now earned R424 625.
Out of the Western Winter mare Arabian Winter, Bureau Des Legende is the seventh stakes winner, from just 33 runners, for her sire Legislate.
The filly is the first stakes winner to have emerged from Legislate’s small second crop, which consists of just nine registered foals.
Legislate made a spectacular start to his stud career with his small initial crop producing four graded stakes winners and two other stakes winners.

South Africa’s Horse Of The Year in 2013-2014, four-time G1 winner Legislate has two lots on offer at this year’s National Yearling Sale.
