The progeny of Highlands Farm Stud’s young sire Jackson proved popular at the 2017 Cape Premier Yearling Sale this past weekend.

Jackson, whose first crop are now yearlings, had members of his initial crop fetch up to R2.2 million, with his top lot being a filly out of the well bred Western Winter Undine. That filly was knocked down to Brett Crawford –the former trainer of Jackson –for R2 200 000.

This price was the highest paid for a first crop sire at the Premier Sale –which is certainly a great start for Jackson!

Jackson also had a colt out of the Pulpit mare Temple Goddess fetch R750 000, while a Jackson half-sister to former Equus Champion 2YO and Wilgerbosdrift’s young sire Soft Falling Rain fetch R500 000 to the bid of the Bass Racing Team.

One of the first sons of leading sire Dynasty to retire to stud, Jackson himself was the top lot sold at the 2010 Emperors Palace National 2YO Sale.

He went on to prove himself a top class performer,  winning or placing in 13 of 17 outings with his victories including a 2.15 length thrashing of dual Horse Of The Year Variety Club in the G1 Investec Cape Derby.

Jackson went on to add the G1 Daily News 2000 and G1 Champions Cup to his tally of big race wins and retired to stud having earned over R2.3 million in stakes.
A half or full brother to 2 graded winners, Jackson is from the same family as dual US Champion Sire Smart Strike, whose champion son Curlin was responsible for five individual G1 winners in 2016.
