Varsfontein Stud’s successful resident sire Judpot enjoyed another good season in 2016-2017.
The son of champions A P Indy and Miesque ended the season, with his offspring having earned more than R6.141 million in stakes money and including the feature race winners Polyphonic (G2 Gerald Rosenberg Stakes and Coral Fever (G3 Jubilee Handicap).
Judpot, whose 3yos include G2 Golden Slipper runner up Let It Flow and KZN Yearling Sale Million runner up Sniper Shot, had another eye-catching three-year-old winner at the Vaal on Thursday.
His Varsfontein Stud bred and owned daughter Tamarina produced an impressive burst of speed to come with a late rattle and score first up by 3.4 lengths over 1200m. Bred to need considerably further than the 1200m of Thursday’s race, Tamarina looks a smart sort and should build on this debut effort.
The regally bred Tamarina, who was produced by the Fort Wood mare Albizia, is a full-sister to G1 Golden Horseshoe winner Forest Indigo, who earned over R900 000 in stakes.
Her sire Judpot, whose other notable performers include Equus Champion Along Came Polly and G1 winner Juxtapose, has 16 lots on the 2017 National Two Year Old Sale, including a filly from the same family as Saturday’s G1 Secretariat Stakes contender Permian (Lot 275), a half-brother to Singapore champion Lizarre (Lot 11), and a half-sister to G1 SA Derby runner up Pagoda (Lot 93).
