Juvenile double for Querari

22nd May 2017

Maine Chance Farms’ exciting sire Querari has been in blistering form over the past few weeks, and Oasis Dream’s G1 winning son was back among the winners this weekend, when Querari was represented by a trio of winners.

Querari’s weekend treble include two more impressive two-year-old winners –which took his tally of juvenile winners for the season to ten.

His son, Monks Hood, bred by the Botha family, made an eye catching debut when romping home to win first time out over 1200m at Scottsville on Saturday by 7.5 lengths.
Out of a stakes placed winning daughter of Camden Park, Monks Hood (a R375 000 buy from the 2016 National Sale), looks a really smart sort in the making and looks sure to be aimed at some bigger 2yo races this season.

Querari’s second juvenile winner this weekend came in the form of the Dr Ian Heyns bred Rings And Things, who made all the running to break her maiden by a length and a quarter over 1400m at Kenilworth on Sunday. Rings And Things, who cost R380 000 at last year’s March Yearling Sale, was not winning out of turn –having finished in the money in all four of her previous outings.

Querari’s cracking crop of 2yos this season also includes Listed Dahlia Plate winner Joking, G3 Strelitizia Stakes runner up Made In Hollywood, and G1 SA Nursery third Wonderwal.

He will be represented in Saturday’s G1 Allan Robertson Fillies Championship by Zarnitsa.

Querari, whose previous stars include the G1 winning 2yo Querari Falcon, is currently one of South  Africa’s leading sires of 2yos (both by prize money and by individual winners).
