KwaZulu-Natal Stakes success for Querari

31st Mar 2025

Maine Chance Farms’ inform stallion Querari had a good day at Hollywoodbets Greyville on Monday.
Querari’s four-year-old son Teflon Man caught the eye when storming home to win the KwaZulu-Natal Stakes (Non Black Type) over 1200 metres.
Trained by Dean Kannemeyer, the recently gelded Teflon Man was given a fine ride by Craig Zackey in Monday’s R165 000 sprint.
Racing midfield early on, Teflon Man quickened up smartly to hit the front 200m from home. From there, the Querari gelding kept finding to win by nearly half a length.
Bred by Klawervlei Stud in partnership with the late David Abery, Teflon Man has won five of 17 starts.
Teflon Man, who is out of the Dark Angel mare Lost In Love, has a half-brother (Lot176) on offer at the upcoming National Yearling Sale.
His sire Querari, South Africa’s Leading Sire of 2YOs in 2018-2019, went close to having a feature race double on Saturday.
Querari’s sons Cosmic Speed and Solar Sail finished second and third respectively in Saturday’s G2 TAB Hawaii Stakes and G1 TAB SA Derby at Turffontein.
Querari also hails from a very much happening family, with Querari’s very close relative Quinault a leading contender for the upcoming G1 Al Quoz Sprint.
Like Querari a son of Oasis Dream, Quinault is out of Querari’s Dansili half-sister Queimada.
Quinault embarked on an unprecedented winning spree as a 3-year-old, winning off a mark of at Chelmsford in April 2023 and adding six more successes to reach a rating of 102.
Quinault’s first two international trips went without a hitch and he showed his versatility with two third places in the Prix de Seine-et-Oise (G3) on heavy ground at Chantilly in October and in the Dukhan Sprint (G3) in Qatar on good turf last month.
