Drakenstein Stud’s resident sire Legislate is a half-brother to Saturday’s eye catching winner Greenflashsunset, who impressed when successful over 1200 metres.
Bred by the Cheveley Stud, the Justin Snaith trained gelding has now won or placed in seven of nine outings and he should go in again soon.
One of three winners on the day for his trainer, Greenflashsunset was a R700 000 purchase from the 2015 National Yearling Sale.
He is one of four winners for his dam Champers, who won four times up to 1200 metres, best known as the dam of the record breaking Horse Of The Year Legislate, who is now standing at Drakenstein Stud.
A four time G1 winner himself, Legislate broke the course record for 1600m at Kenilworth and garnered no fewer than four Equus Awards during his illustrious career including the title of South Africa’s Horse Of The Year for 2014. His major wins included the Vodacom Durban July, Rising Sun Gold Challenge, Daily News 2000 and Investec Cape Derby, and he also smashed the track record when victorious in the 2014 G2 Green Point Stakes.
Bred on a similar cross to current sire sensation Frankel, Legislate, who retired with earnings of in excess of R5.7 million, is one of 13 G1 winners for champion Dynasty, who was responsible for last season’s Equus Champions Lady In Black and Just Sensual.
The champion’s much anticipated first crop of foals are arriving this season!
