Merchants win for Ideal World

26th Jan 2020

Mauritzfontein’s inform sire Ideal World once again made news this past week, with his son Kimberley Star landing the Fairview Merchants (Non- Black Type) at Fairview on Friday.

The East Cape Champion 2YO Colt of 2016-2017, Kimberley Star was defending his title when he claimed Friday’s 1200m sprint, with the Ideal World gelding having won the Merchants in 2019 when he beat Exelero into second place.

Trained by Alan Greeff, the five-year-old made it win number six when running on strongly to account for former G3 Vasco Prix du Cap winner Elusive Heart by a length and a quarter under Teaque Gould.

Bred by Wilgerbosdrift & Mauritzfontein, Kimberley Star (whose previous wins also included a triumph in the 2017 Listed Champion Juvenile Cup) has now earned in excess of R590 000.

Bred on the same Ideal World/Strike Smartly cross as G3 Track And Ball Derby winner Cape Speed, and out of the Strike Smartly mare Advance Warning, Kimberley Star has a Fututa half-brother on offer at the upcoming Cape Yearling Sale.

His Prix de Pelleas winning sire Ideal World is enjoying another fine season with Ideal World’s principal runners including G2 Joburg Spring F&M Challenge winner Vistula, G3 Three Troikas Stakes heroine Mount Laurel and Listed Socrasync Toro Ya Africa Algoa Cup victor Cat Daddy.

The sire of 39 stakes horses, and counting, Ideal World is currently 11th on the South African General Sires List with his progeny having earned more than R3.5 million this season thus far.
