Former champion sire Silvano, who is currently again atop of the South African General Sires List, had a smart mid-week double at Kenilworth on Wednesday.
Lomitas’ star son’s daughter Silvan Star impressed when scoring the fourth win of her career for owners Peter de Beyer and Georgina Jaffee, while Silvano’s son Silver Master picked up his second win when denying R4 000 000 yearling buy Moonrise Sensation victory in the afternoon’s eighth and final race.
Remarkably, Silvan Star and Silver Master were their sire’s sole representatives on the card.
Silvano, whose recent big race winners include G2 Gauteng Guineas winner Janoobi and G1 Klawervlei Majorca Stakes winner Nightingale, could be in for a big weekend this weekend.
The former Arlington Million winner is strongly represented at Turffontein on Classic day this Saturday, with Silvano being represented by runners in all of the G3 Protea Stakes (Silver God), G1 Wilgerbosdrift SA Fillies Classic (Orchid Island, Oriental Oak, Philae), G1 SA Classic (Janoobi, Al Sahem), Listed Jacaranda Handicap (Inaninstant) and G3 Caradoc Gold Cup (Zafira).
The champion, whose yearlings have fetched up to R6 000 000 in the sales ring, has six lots on offer at April’s Emperors Palace Select Yearling Sale, including a colt out of a Storm Cat mare from the same family as legendary sire Mr Prospector (Lot 29), a colt (bred on the same cross as Met winner Martial Eagle) out of a G3 winning Jallad mare (Lot 99), and a colt out of a winning Spectrum half-sister to July winning sire Pomodoro (Lot 122).
Silvano also has a superb draft on the 2017 National Yearling Sale, with his 20 lots on offer including a filly out of champion Princess Victoria (Lot 112), a filly out of Jet Master’s G3 winning daughter Express Queen (Lot 387), a full-brother to G1 winner Wavin’ Flag (Lot 417), and a full-sister to champion Hot Ticket (Lot 444).
