Drakenstein Stud’s successful resident sire Philanthropist had a notable double on Wednesday, with his only two runners at Greyville with both scoring eye catching victories.
Philanthropist’s 2yo daughter Tsessebe got off the mark at just the second time of asking when bounding clear to score an emphatic four and a quarter length win for trainer Dennis Drier and breeders Klawervlei Stud over 1200m on Wednesday.
Tsessebe, a close up second on debut, was a bargain R50 000 buy at the 2016 Emperors Palace Select Yearling Sale.
She is the third juvenile winner for Philanthropist this season, with others including Listed Ruffian Stakes runner up Outlander and impressive debut winner Pack Leader (the latter has been entered for the upcoming Gatecrasher Stakes).
Tsessebe’s impressive victory was followed up by her paternal half-brother Philosopher, who dug down deep to score by half a length over 1000m. The Eenfontein Stud bred three-year-old was a R140 000 buy from the 2015 National Yearling Sale. Philosopher is closely inbred to the great mare Grey Flight as is he is out of mare by Philanthropist’s very close relative National Assembly.
Philanthropist’s first South African crop, now three-year-olds, include no fewer than seven stakes horses. This tally is headed by exported G2 Investec Dingaans winner Singapore Sling, G3 winner She’s A Giver and G1 filly Sail.
The son of Kris S is the covering sire on four lots at the upcoming Mares, Weanlings & Fillies For Stud Select Sale (including G1 winner Little Miss Magic) and will also be represented by eight yearlings at the 2017 Klawervlei Farm Sale.
Philanthropist, also sire of champions Pender Harbour and Phil’s Dream, has two lots on offer at the 2017 KZN Yearling Sale.
