Minnaloushe makes waves in rich York feature

24th Aug 2017

Maine Chance Farms’ proven sire Black Minnaloushe was to the fore as a broodmare on the second day of York’s famed Ebor festival on Thursday.

The son of Storm Cat is broodmare sire of promising two-year-old Tangled (by Society Rock), who stormed home to win the rich Goffs Premier Yearling Stakes for trainer Richard Hannon and jockey Sean Levey on Thursday.

Tangled, now a winner of two of five outings, had previously won a nursery at Newmarket by three and a half lengths.

He is out of the Black Minnaloushe matron Open Verse, who was placed once and who is a half-sister to ill-fated G1 winner Polaris Flight.

Open Verse is also dam of dual winner Faithful Creek (by Bushranger), who ran third in the G3 John Deere Juvenile Turf Stakes and fifth in the G1 Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Turf a few years ago.

Black Minnaloushe, whose 60 plus stakes horses include Breeders’ Cup Sprint hero Dancing In Silks and Triple Crown winning sire Louis The King, is becoming an increasingly successful broodmare sire with his daughters having produced such group/graded stakes winners as Bangkok (G3 Vigil Handicap), Stolen Dance (G2 Lady Norrie S) and Amarula (G2 Hawke’s Bay Guineas).

He is also broodmare sire of smart US turf performer Power Foot, placed in all of the G2 Hollywood Turf Cup, G2 San Marcos S, and G3 San Juan Capistrano Stakes.
