Avontuur Thoroughbred Farm’s prominent sire Var, who was Champion Sire of 2YOs last season, had another feature race win this weekend.
This time it was Var’s son Life Is Good who provided his sire with feature race success, with the Northfields Stud bred gelding capturing the Hachiman Sprint at Borrowdale Park on Sunday.

The four-year-old captured his first feature race victory with a three and a half length romp in the 1100m feature race for trainer Amy Bronkhurst and jockey Randall Simons.

His sire Var, famed as the sire of champions Variety Club, Via Africa and Val De Ra, enjoyed a stellar season in 2016-2017 with his 2yos including G2 Golden Horseshoe winner Purple Diamond and G1 Gold Medallion runner up Varallo.

Var, also broodmare sire of high class performers She’s A Giver, Mambonick, Zen Arcade and Miss Frankel, has 13 lots on this week’s Cape Premier Yearling Sale- including a colt out of multiple G3 winner Orator’s Daughter (Lot 87), a colt out of Jet Master sired stakes winner Pan Amm (Lot 95), and a half-sister to multiple G1 winner Thunder Dance (Lot 135).
