Mauritzfontein’s successful resident sire Ideal World was back in the news this weekend when his daughter Zante lifted the G3 Track And Ball Oaks at Scottsville on Sunday.
Bred by Nigel Page, the five-year-old Zante made much of the running to lift the spoils in Sunday’s R300 000 contest by 1.75 lengths over G3 Yellowwood Handicap winner Girl On The Run.
Now a six time winner, who has banked more than R600 000 in stakes, the Lammerskraal Stud owned Zante is likely to be retired following this win and could visit Noble Tune in her first season at stud.
A bargain R70 000 buy from the 2013, Zante is out of the winning Western Winter mare Temperate Lady.
The Oaks was a good race for sire Ideal World, who was not only responsible for the victorious Zante but was also sire of fifth place finisher Royal Utopia. The latter had finished a game third in the G2 Wilgerbosdrift SA Oaks at her previous outing and she should pick up a decent prize before too much longer.
Ideal World, whose champion daughter Smart Call is a runner in the G2 Duke Of Cambridge Stakes at Royal Ascot on Wednesday, has been represented by the likes of Hermoso Mundo (G3 Gold Bowl) and R800 000 plus earner Irish Pride this season.
The son of Kingmambo’s runners have earned more than R6.5 million this season and he ranks above such sires as Western Winter, Elusive Fort and Querari on the general sires list for the 2016-2017 season.
Ideal World, whose yearlings have fetched up to R750 000 in 2017, will be represented by 11 lots at next week’s KZN Yearling Sale. His draft includes a half-sister to feature race winner Winter Darling (Lot 99), a colt from the same family as champion and Breeders’ Cup winner Lady’s Secret (Lot 118), and a colt (bred on the same Ideal World/Western Winter cross as Zante) whose dam is a sister to G3 winning sprinter The Boogieman (Lot 170).
