Avontuur Thoroughbred Farm’s European champion Oratorio has certainly made an encouraging start with his first South African bred crop of 2yos this season.
Danehill’s triple G1 winning son is responsible for the talented Sacred Oration, who made it three wins from just five outings when defying top weight to score a three parts of a length success over 1400m at Fairview on Friday.
Bred by Patricia Devine, Listed East Cape Nursery runner up Sacred Oration was a R125 000 buy from last year’s Cape Premier Yearling Sale.
Clearly one of the leading 2yos currently racing in the Eastern Cape, Sacred Oration began his stud career with a bang when landing his first two races in a row.
His sire Oratorio was also represented creditably in two KZN feature races on Saturday. Oratorio daughter Sequined (bred by Maine Chance Farms) showed her class with a game second in the Listed Devon Air Stakes at Greyville on Saturday while just one race later Oratorio’s son Ancestry (making just his second racecourse appearance) ran second in the Listed Gatecrasher Stakes over 1400 metres.
To date, Oratorio’s first South African crop has produced 3 black type horses as well as feature race winner Arianos Bagofgold and there looks to be plenty more to come from this crop of 2yos.
Sire of more than 40 stakes winners the world over, Oratorio is the covering sire on one lot at Friday’s Mares, Weanlings, & Fillies For Stud Select Sale and will be represented by five yearlings at the 2017 KZN Yearling Sale.
