Avontuur Thoroughbred Farm’s successful resident stallion Oratorio is enjoying an excellent season with his two-year-olds, and the triple G1 winning son of Danehill was at it again at Scottsville on Wednesday.
Fresh off a fifth place effort in a barrier trail, Oratorio sired two-year-old Di Me made an official winning debut when successful over 1200m.
The Piemonte Stud bred colt impressed when coming home one length clear of the regally bred Dynasty colt Fitzwilliam to break his maiden in taking style for trainer Ivan Van Wyk and apprentice Serino Moodley.
Di Me, who is out of the Selkirk mare Irish Heroine, was a R110 000 buy from the 2017 KZN Yearling Sale.
France’s Champion Two Year Old Colt in 2004, Oratorio has been represented by seven two-year-old winners in 2017-2018, with his star juveniles this season including Saturday’s impressive G3 Godolphin Barb Stakes winner Cue The Music, Listed East Cape Fillies Nursery winner Carlita, Strelitzia Stakes third Petra, Pretty Polly Stakes third Cloud Break, and Godolphin Barb runner up Van Halen.
Another two-year-old winner by Oratorio this season, Jephthah, is a runner in Sunday’s Listed Somerset 1200 at Kenilworth.
The sire of 51 stakes winners, and counting, Oratorio’s previous stars include such major international G1 winners as Military Attack, Beethoven, Temida, Banchee, Mourinho, Manawanui and Italian champion Biz The Nurse.
