Avontuur Thoroughbred Farm’s resident sire Oratorio looks to have a well above average two-year-old filly to his name in the form of Carlita.
The latter made it two wins from just three outings when romping home to a two and three quarter length win in a juvenile plate for fillies over 1000m at Fairview on Friday and looks destined for bigger and better things.
Bred by the Piemonte Stud, the Alan Greeff trained filly had previously won on debut by 8.25 lengths in the style of a top class filly.
Carlita suffered her only defeat to date when runner up to Snitzel colt Traces in the Listed Tattersalls Summer Juvenile Stakes on Sun Met day.
Out of the Point Given mare Auburn Annio, Carlita was a R35 000 purchase from the 2017 KZN Yearling Sale.
She is one of three juvenile winners representing Oratorio this season –with the latter no stranger to siring high class two-year-old runners.
Among the top 2yos sired by Oratorio previously are G1 winners Banchee and Beethoven, as well as group/graded winners King Torus and Ottimo and Dewhurst Stakes runner up, and Cape sire, Fencing Master.
Oratorio’s son Ancestry ranked as one of South Africa’s top juveniles in 2016-2017, finishing runner up in both the G1 Premiers Champion Stakes and G2 Golden Horseshoe.
A triple G1 winning son of Danehill, Oratorio has 15 lots on offer at the 2018 April Yearling Sale.
