Oratorio filly makes it two out of three

Avontuur Thoroughbred Farm’s promising sire Oratorio had an eye catching winner at Turffontein on Thursday when his daughter Mrs O dead-heated for first place with Shivering Sea over 1160 metres.

The Mike/Adam Azzie trained three-year-old, who had been an impressive winner on debut, was strongly ridden by the Avontuur sponsored hoop Lyle Hewitson to post her second success in just three outings.

Mrs O, who was dropping back in trip having contested a 1400m contest at her last outing, was a R500 000 buy from the 2016 Cape Premier Yearling Sale.

She is from the first South African crop sired by European champion and triple G1 winner Oratorio. The latter, a son of the great Danehill, made an immediate impression last season with his first local 2yos including the high-class Ancestry, runner up in both the G1 Premier’s Champion Stakes and G2 Golden Horseshoe.

Oratorio’s first crop of SA runners include 13 individual winners, headed by the stakes performers Sacred Oration and Sequined.

The sire of nearly 50 stakes winners the world over, Oratorio emulated sire greats Sadler’s Wells and Giant’s Causeway by lifting both the G1 Coral-Eclipse and G1 Irish Champion Stakes.
