Avontuur Thoroughbred Farm’s triple G1 winning sire Oratorio has been enjoying a tremendous season this year thus far, and the son of Danehill was at it again, this time as a broodmare sire on Sunday.
His high-class daughter Scream Blue Murder, a three-parts sister to millionaire, and G2 KRA Fillies Guineas winner, Gibraltar Blue, made headlines when her son Wargrave (by Galileo) captured the Longines 81st Grosser Preis von St Moritz yesterday.
Runner up in September’s Listed Edmund & Josie Whelan Memorial Listowel Stakes, Wargrave made all and scored by 1 1/2 lengths over Hout Bay in the 2000-metre Longines Grosser Preis von St Moritz on the final Sunday of action of the unique White Turf meeting.
Bred by Orpendale and Drakenstein Stud Pty. Ltd in Ireland, the 4-year-old was winning for the second time in 13 starts after selling for 100,000gns to George Baker Racing during the Tattersalls Autumn Horses-inTraining Sale last year.
His dam, Scream Blue Murder, was a very talented galloper in her own right, with the Oratorio daughter winning four times including the G3 Phoenix Sprint Stakes of 2014.
Scream Blue Murder is one of 56 stakes winners sired by Oratorio (champion sire in Italy in both 2012 and 2013), whose Racing Association Stakes winning son Viva Rio is a leading contender for Saturday’s G1 Arf Commemorative Cape Derby.
