Oratorio juveniles continue to impress

23rd Jul 2018

Avontuur Thoroughbred Farm’s successful resident stallion Oratorio has been enjoying a fine season with his two-year-olds in 2017-2018 and the triple G1 winning son of Danehill enjoyed another 2yo double over the past weekend.

Oratorio

In the process, Oratorio took his number of two-year-old winners for the season to 14 –making the former champion responsible for more juvenile winners this past South African season than such top class stallions as Trippi, Ideal World, What A Winter, and Silvano.

Oratorio’s 2yo double this past weekend commenced when his daughter Making Waves romped to a two and a quarter length win over 1000m at Greyville on Friday.
The Avontuur bred filly, who is out of the Quiet American mare Sea Of Calm, had won a barrier trial before running second on her first official racetrack outing.
Trained by Dennis Bosch, Making Waves was a R400 000 buy from the 2017 National Yearling Sale.

Another 2yo filly by Oratorio, Not Now Pussycat, gave her sire a memorable juvenile double when she saluted by 1.25 lengths over 1200m at Greyville for trainer Glen Kotzen and jockey Richard Fourie. The filly, who has now won or placed in all four of her career outings,  was bred by the Hemel ‘n Aarde Stud and she is out of the Black Minnaloushe matron Ginger Cat.

Oratorio’s juveniles have won or placed in all of the G1 Tsogo Sun Gold Medallion, G3 Godolphin Barb Stakes, G3 Pretty Polly Stakes, G3 Strelitzia Stakes, Listed Summer Juvenile Stakes, and Listed East Cape Fillies Nursery.

The former European champion will once again be strongly represented in juvenile feature races this Saturday. Oratorio daughter Petra lines up in Saturday’s G3 Gagasi FM Debutante Stakes, Oratorio’s star son Cue The Music looks a top contender for the same day’s G3 Haval Motors South Africa Umkhomazi Stakes, while Oratorio is set to be represented in the G1 Thekwini Stakes and G1 Premiers Champion Stakes by Believe The Best and Confessional respectively.

Sire of more than 50 stakes winners the world over, Oratorio has nine lots on next month’s National Two Year Old Sale.
