Pathfork colt impresses on debut

10th May 2017

The progeny of Highlands Farms Stud, part of Ridgemont’s resident sire Pathfork have been firing on all cylinders lately and the son of Distorted Humor was at it again at the Vaal on Tuesday.
This time it was his two-year-old son Like Astair to catch the eye, with the Mike Azzie trained colt running out a convincing two length winner over 1000m on debut.

Inbred to Danzig, Like Astair was a R700 000 purchase at the 2016 National Yearling Sale.

He is  the fourth winner produced by National Assembly’s five time winning daughter Capitol Steps.

Tuesday’s winner was Pathfork’s fifth 2yo winner for the 2016-2017 season.

Other notable juveniles representing Pathfork this season include Listed East Cape Fillies Nursery winner (on debut) winner Precious Pansy and fellow debut winners and feature race contenders Holly’s Vision and Twelve Oaks.

A G1 winner and champion at two, Pathfork is from the same female line as Australian legend Redoute’s Choice, responsible for Saturday’s G1 winners Mustaaqeem and Rafeef. To date, Redoute’s Choice, surely one of the best stallions ever bred in Australia, has 32 individual G1 winners to his credit, including Cheveley Stud’s promising young sire Wylie Hall.
