Boland Stud have a tremendously strong draft on offer at the 2017 KZN Yearling Sale, and one of their nicest lots on offer is lot 208, a chestnut colt by champion Pathfork.
The blue blooded Pathfork, whose sire Distorted Humor has been represented by a winner of every leg of the US Triple Crown, was a top class racehorse and Irish Champion 2YO Colt of 2010, when his wins included the G1 boylesports.com Vincent O’Brien National Stakes, over subsequent G1 Racing Post Trophy winner Casamento.
Pathfork, who is from the same family as champion sires Redoute’s Choice, Northern Guest and Try My Best, has made a smart start with his first few crops producing such high class performers as Red Chesnut Road, Turbo and debut feature race winner Precious Pansy. This season, Pathfork has been represented by six juvenile winners this season, including the stakes filly Holly’s Vision and Twelve Oaks –a winner of two of just four starts.
The colt on offer, who has been named Desolate Road, is out of the smart race mare Dark Journey, a five time winner up to 1400m, who ran third in the Listed Irridescence Stakes as a two-year-old.
Dark Journey, in turn, is a half-sister to multiple stakes winner Francia, whose wins include the Listed Winter Oaks, and to G2 Tibouchina Stakes third Earth’s Orbit.
Desolate Road’s second dam is a winning Rakeen half-sister to 2 stakes winners including champion sprinter Hinterland. The latter won no fewer than 16 races during his illustrious career, including the G1 Mercury Sprint and G1 Golden Horse Sprint.
This is the same family as Horse Of The Year and multiple champion sire Foveros –one of the finest sires ever to stand at stud in South Africa, and responsible for numerous stars including champions Aquanaut and Teal.
