Pathfork filly lands Magnolia Handicap

27th Nov 2017

Highlands Stud enjoyed a memorable Sansui Summer Cup this past Sunday, with their sires Dynasty and Pathfork both represented by notable graded winners.

My Friend Lee

Former Irish Champion, and G1 National Stakes winner, Pathfork is the sire of Sunday’s eye catching G3 EFC Worldwide Magnolia Handicap winner My Friend Lee, who was bred by Highlands Stud.

The four-year-old, who hails from Pathfork’s first crop of runners, made it win number six with a powerful 1.2 length win over former G2 The Debutante runner up Arissa. Other smart performers defeated by My Friend Lee in Sunday’s race were the stakes winners Queen Laurie, Wrecking Ball and Daring Diva.

It was a first graded win for the filly, who has won or placed in 12 of her 17 outings and who has banked R548 125 in prize money.

Trained by Lucky Houdalakis, My Friend Lee was a R300 000 buy from the 2015 Suncoast KZN Yearling Sale, where she was the top-priced Pathfork yearling sold.

Pathfork

The impeccably bred Pathfork made a superb start to his stud career, with his first crop including not only the above mentioned My Friend Lee but also 6.25 length G3 Godolphin Barb Stakes winner Red Chesnut Road.

A son of US champion sire Distorted Humor (whose sons Any Given Saturday, Flower Alley and Drosselmeyer have all sired G1 winners), Pathfork is from the same family as multiple champion sire Redoute’s Choice, whose numerous G1 winners include champion Australian sire Snitzel as well as Highlands Stud’s G1 winning new sire Rafeef.
